Integrated Phonics
Grow literacy skills by integrating stories with phonics lessons
Our Integrated Phonics units pair compelling stories with phonics lessons to build strong decoding skills – one story at a time.
Decoding (phonics) and language comprehension skills are both required to achieve reading comprehension.

Choose from 96 weekly lesson plans that integrate stories with phonics
- Pre-Reader units focus on initial letter sounds. Companion stories develop listening comprehension, rich vocabulary, and phonemic awareness.
- Emerging Reader units focus on digraphs and trigraphs. Companion stories are accessible for all learners with word-by-word audio support.
- Reading Fluency units focus on important “rules” such as “i before e” and encourage more creative writing.
Activate each day’s lesson with an online story and phonics book
- All our interactive phonics “Letterbooks” are 100% interactive, introducing the letter or digraphs sounds with full audio support – including translations if needed for ELL students.
- Each companion Storybook includes examples introduced in phonics lesson. Reading continues to build language comprehension.
- High-frequency words (sight words) for each story are noted in lesson plans so they can be taught in advance.
Grow literacy skills off screen with printable activity sheets
- Storybook Activity Sheets allow students to write and draw about they learned using vocabulary introduced in the story. Students are challenged to think beyond the text and even compose a related short story of their own
- Wordbook Activity Sheets focus on building core vocabulary and basic sentence construction. These are especially helpful for language learners.
- Phonics Letterbook Activity Sheets focus on reinforcing key words that support the phonics lesson with room for writing or dictation at the end.
Reinforce phonemic awareness with interactive games
- New interactive games for Letterbooks include broad range of opportunities to reinforce phonemic awareness and support decoding skills, key components of literacy.
- Games include: practice identifying letter and digraph sounds, recognizing initial and medial sounds in words, and blending letters into words
- All audio is recorded by a native English speaker, assuring correct pronunciation, enunciation, and inflection throughout.
Use Integrated Phonics units for whole class, small group or one-on-one instruction
- The whole class can participate in an overview of the week’s phonics unit and introduction to the companion story;
- Small groups can take turns reading the story together and completing activity sheets;
- Independently, students can go through the quizzes and games online to test their skills, build confidence, and collect points along the way!
