STORYWORLD was just recognized by the US Department of Education with an award to promote continued research and development of STORYWORLD’s unique language learning platform. This is our second award from the US Department of Education, with grant awards totaling over $1 million.
The highly prestigious award recognizes our innovative platform as a promising solution to the achievement gap in the US between English Language Learners and native English speakers. The platform also provides supports for bilingual education in Spanish and Mandarin.
Because STORYWORLD addresses the developmental language needs of all emerging English learners, the product can simultaneously meet the needs of English language learners (ELLs), native English speakers, and bilingual students.
With STORYWORLD, children learn a language naturally through stories, helped by word-by-word vocabulary support and interactive exercises. Our evaluation dashboard enables educators to see how well students are doing and where they need more help.
The grant award was funded through Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program at the U.S. Department of Education and is operated out of the Institute of Education Sciences (IES). Research to inform product development will be conducted by WestEd, one of the nation’s preeminent educational research organizations.
